Exciting New Addition to the Microfabrication Core!

We are thrilled to unveil the ProFluidics 285D 3D Printer, the latest cutting-edge addition to our Rapid Prototyping room. This state-of-the-art DLP printer is tailor-made for microfluidics and biocompatible devices, and it's now up and running in room 772 on the 7th floor—ready for you to bring your innovative ideas to life!

Funded through a collaborative NSERC RTI grant, with TMU and KRCBS scientists led by Dr. Scott Tsai, this powerhouse machine offers unparalleled precision:

  • Print microfluidic chips in transparent material with smooth surface finishes
  • Create encapsulated channels as small as 80 μm
  • Develop master molds with features as fine as 50 μm for PDMS microfluidic devices

With its open materials system and customizable 3D printer software, you’ll have access to a vast library of resins designed for microfluidic and biocompatible applications—or you can create custom material profiles in-house!

If you're ready to unlock new possibilities in your research, contact Dario Bogojevic for training and usage details. And don’t forget to check out this collection of case studies and featured scientific publications showcasing the powerful capabilities of the ProFluidics 285D.

New Equipment: Spectradyne nCS2 Nanoparticle Analyzer

We are excited to introduce the latest addition to our Research Core Facilities: The Spectradyne nCS2 Nanoparticle Analyzer, brought to you by the Flow Cytometry and Microfabrication Cores. This state-of-the-art equipment has been successfully installed in the Analytical Lab on the 7th floor and is now available for use. We would like to extend our gratitude to the National Research Council of Canada for funding this instrument as part of our institutional CRAFT 2.0 collaboration.

The Spectradyne Nanoparticle Analyzer uses patented Microfluidic Resistive Pulse Sensing technology to provide direct and precise nanoparticle size and concentration measurements. It can accurately analyze complex, heterogenous samples, detecting and measuring every particle in your formulation. This instrument allows for the analysis of ExtracellularVesicles, Lipid Nanoparticles, Viruses for Gene Therapy, Protein Aggregates, and Industrial Nanoparticles without the need for sample cleanup. Additionally it does not require calibration to obtain accurate size distribution and concentration measurements, using samples as small as 3 microliters.

For more information about the instrument, training, and usage, please get in touch with Dario Bogojevic or Monika Lodyga. Meanwhile, you can explore the collection of webinars featuring this powerful technology at the Spectradyne Library.

Our Histology lab has expanded!

Research Facilities is happy to announce the expansion of the Histology Lab! We are pleased to introduce two rooms of the Histology Lab on the 6th floor of LKSKI, Histology Lab 1 - Room 666 and Histology Lab 2 - Room 643, each with a number of new and existing pieces of equipment.

The histology equipment booking calendar has been updated and you can continue to book equipment. Individuals who already have access to Histology Lab 1, Room 666 should have access to both rooms now. If you have any issues with this, please contact Security at Ext. 5323.

If you are interested in using any histology equipment, receiving in person training or booking a tour of the Histology Lab, please contact Xiaofeng Lu, Histology specialist at Ext. 77513 or by email at Xiaofeng.lu@unityhealth.to.

Annual Safety Refresher Training Modules - Now Updated

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the updated Biosafety, Lab Safety, and Chemical Safety annual refresher training courses. As part of our ongoing commitment to your safety and preparedness, we have incorporated enhancements into the training.  Additionally, we are excited to introduce a new training module on Emergency Response Procedures. This module has been designed to equip you with the knowledge and protocols to respond to emergencies effectively. By familiarizing yourself with these procedures, you create a safer working environment for yourself and your colleagues. Check out this quick video to learn more.

Access the updated training modules here.

Note that all researchers must complete the updated annual refreshers before this year’s lab audits. Should you encounter any technical difficulties or have any questions regarding the training content, please do not hesitate to reach out to researchfacilities@unityhealth.to.

Recycling Lab Waste

We are excited to announce that a centralized recycling bin to recycle paper, cardboard and packing boxes is now available on the 7th floor in the north hallway. A large landfill container has also been set up for packaging material such as bubble wrap and ice packs.
